Biblical Confessions for My Finances
God cares about your finances! Sound surprising? Did you know that there are more than 2,000 verses in the Bible that deal with financial issues like money, greed, stewardship, debt, hard work, contentment, provision, investments and more? Just as with anything else, you should approach your finances in faith, believing that your heavenly Father will be true to His Word. And part of approaching your finances in faith involves the way you think and speak about them. If you constantly focus on your lack of money, complain about your financial outlook, and doubt that God will be faithful to His Word, then you will receive exactly what you expect. However, if instead, you proclaim God’s goodness, thank Him for His provision and expect Him to be faithful to His Word, you will receive the provision from Him that you expect.
But I have no idea what to say about my finances, you might think.
Well, we’ve got you covered. Here are four biblically based miniconfessions to speak over your financial life.
- More Than Enough
“God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others. As the Scriptures say, ‘They share freely and give generously to the poor. Their good deeds will be remembered forever.’” –2 Corinthians 9:8-9
Confession: God, I thank You that You generously provide everything I need. In fact, I thank You that according to Your Word, I have more than enough so that I can share my extra with the those in need. And every time this occurs, I’ll remember and proclaim Your faithfulness.
- Every Need Covered
“My God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” –Philippians 4:19, KJV
Confession: Lord, You know the needs I have even better than I do. I trust You with every part of my life, including my finances. I stand in faith for Your Word to come to pass that all my needs are met according to Your riches in glory by Christ Jesus. And I thank You for it!
- Provision by His Power
“That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith? So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” –Matthew 6:25-33
Confession: Heavenly Father, I know You care for me. I know You love me. Your Word tells me that I am more valuable to You than the birds or the wildflowers. I trust and focus on that Word and You. You know the needs that I have for basic necessities, and I trust that You are meeting those needs right now. I will continue to thank You that those needs are met and that You will provide for me and my family every day of our lives.
- Overcoming Debt
“Owe nothing to anyone—except for your obligation to love one another. If you love your neighbour, you will fulfil the requirements of God’s law.” –Romans 13:8
Confession: Lord, I stand in faith for all my debts to be paid in full so that I may owe nothing except to love others. I understand that I cannot accomplish that on my own, but I know You can make that possible. And I trust You to do it.
Right now, begin proclaiming the Lord’s provision in your life.
