Every person is created with a unique purpose. Ephesians 1:4 says “just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love,” God already had a plan for your life. He has a destiny for you that is filled with love, joy, peace, and fulfillment. Discovering and walking in that God-given purpose is one of the most fulfilling experiences you can have. As you dive into God’s Word and listen to His voice, you will begin to see how He designed you for a purpose far greater than anything you could have imagined.
You Are Fearfully and Wonderfully Made
In Psalm 139:13-14, the psalmist writes, “For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” This passage reveals a beautiful truth: you are not an accident. God carefully crafted every aspect of who you are — your personality, talents, and gifts. He wove these together to equip you for the destiny He has prepared for you.
Knowing that you are “fearfully and wonderfully made” means understanding that your uniqueness is intentional. God doesn’t make mistakes, and everything about you — from your quirks to your strengths — is part of His divine design. When we embrace how God made us, we begin to see how our individual traits are perfectly suited for the assignments He has given us in this life.
Called for a Purpose
Throughout the Bible, we see examples of men and women who fulfilled the destiny God had for them. One such example is Joseph. His journey to realizing his God-given purpose was anything but easy. Sold into slavery by his brothers and later imprisoned for a crime he did not commit, Joseph could have easily given up. However, he continued to trust God, and in time, he was elevated to a position of great influence in Egypt. What seemed like a series of unfortunate events was actually God preparing and positioning Joseph to save a nation from famine (Genesis 50:20).
Esther is another powerful example of someone who stepped into her destiny. As a Jewish woman who became queen, Esther found herself in a unique position to save her people from destruction. She could have remained silent, but instead, she embraced her purpose, realizing that she was placed in her royal position “for such a time as this” (Esther 4:14). Through her bravery and obedience to God, the Jewish people were spared from annihilation.
God Equips the Ones He Calls
One of the most important truths about walking in your God-given destiny is that God equips those He calls. God gave Kenneth a specific mandate to preach the Word of Faith and teach believers how to live victorious, overcoming lives through faith in God’s promises.
Kenneth’s early career as a successful recording artist, and his skills in aviation are examples of God equipping him to be a vessel to preach the gospel to millions of people all around the world. When God calls someone, He never leaves them ill-equipped. The Bible shows us time and time again that God provides everything we need to fulfill our calling.
Moses, for instance, was unsure of his ability to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. He doubted his speaking abilities and was reluctant to step into the destiny God had for him. But in Exodus 4:10-12, God reassures Moses, saying, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.” In the same way, God gave Moses the ability to lead His people, even though Moses felt inadequate.
Jesus Equips Ordinary People
Similarly, when God called Jeremiah, he protested that he was too young and didn’t know how to speak. But God responded in Jeremiah 1:7-8, “Do not say, ‘I am too young.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you.” Like Moses and Jeremiah, Brother Kenneth wasn’t born with all the skills he would need to fulfill God’s calling, but God equipped him along the way.
In the New Testament, we see this principle again in the lives of the disciples. Most of Jesus’ followers were ordinary people—fishermen, tax collectors, and tradesmen—but Jesus equipped them to carry out the greatest mission of all: to spread the Gospel to the ends of the earth. Acts 1:8 tells us that Jesus promised them, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses.” The disciples, empowered by the Holy Spirit, went on to transform the world with the message of salvation.
Walking in Your God-Given Destiny
So, how do you discover and walk in the destiny God has for you? First, spend time in prayer and the Word. It’s in your quiet time with God that He will begin to reveal His plans for your life. In Psalm 37:23, we read, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord.” When you walk closely with God, He will guide your every step, even when you can’t see the full picture yet.
Second, be obedient to what God is telling you. As Kenneth Copeland’s life shows us, following God’s purpose may sometimes require stepping out in faith and leaving your comfort zone. But rest assured, as you take that step, God will meet you and provide everything you need to fulfill His plans.
Lastly, surround yourself with a community of believers who will encourage you and help you grow in your faith. Proverbs 27:17 says, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” Being connected to others who are also seeking to walk in their God-given destiny will inspire and strengthen you in your own journey.
Designed With a Purpose
God has an extraordinary destiny for your life. You are designed with a purpose, created to fulfill the plans He has prepared specifically for you. Trust in Him, follow His leading, and step boldly into the calling He has for you, knowing that He is with you every step of the way. As you walk in obedience and faith, you will experience the fullness of the abundant life He has promised.
