The Battle Between Church and State

Church and State

Are you watching your local news thinking: My God! Your people need You! There is an obvious battle between church and state. Everywhere we turn we are flooded by rumours of war, domestic terrorism, government corruption or the perversion of families and children. You would not be the first to ask: what is the root cause of all this evil? Every election cycle politicians formulate eloquent promises, but the answer is simple; the root cause is the devil! In the Flashpoint Special Report The Real Root of School Shootings Pastor Gene Baily investigates one of the first places this evil infiltrates: the Supreme Court.

In 1947 the Supreme Court in America began secularising policies to remove religion from public life. Fifteen years later, America’s 300-year-old tradition of praying in schools became unconstitutional. In 1962 the Supreme Court set America on a path where God was not acknowledged in public. This influenced the wider global community. Where natural law or morality were no longer a reasonable standard of law. As a result, we see an increase of violent crimes against women and children, divorces, an increase in unplanned teenage pregnancies, and the general deterioration of morality in society.

The Battle Against Evil

As believers we know that “in the beginning was the WORD and the WORD was with God and the WORD was God,” John 1:1 (NIV). So, we can be confident that nations were founded on the WORD of God. Constitutions were written by founding fathers who lived by biblical natural law standards who hoped for moral principles to govern the future for their country. Unfortunately, we are living in a period of human history where there is no value on human life. Brother Copeland says when you have an open door to the devil you need to find that door and shut it! So where do we start? The WORD!

When Jesus arrived in the region of Gadarenes a man tortured by evil spirits approaches Him. As He was casting demons from this man, the legions of evil spirits begged Jesus repeatedly not to send them away out of the country (Mark 5:10). We can learn from this story that the enemy assigns agents to specific geographic locations to influence people to change the fabric of a country away from the WORD of God. So, Paul reminded the church of Ephesians, and us today, that the battle against evil is not one of flesh and blood, “but against principalities, against powers, against rulers of the darkness of this world, and against spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places,” Ephesians 6:12 (MEV).

Armour Fit For Battle

In this battle Paul tells the church of Ephesus to remain faithful and to take up the full armour of God (Ephesians 6:14-17), then he tells the church to stand! Paul continues to tell the church to “be alert with all perseverance and supplication for the saints,” Ephesians 6:18 (MEV). Fitted with the full armour, today’s Church – every pastor, every minister, every missionary, every small groups leader, every one representing the body of Christ must repent.

The full body of Christ must teach the biblical foundations of the constitution to establish that Gods WORD will not pass away (Matthew 24:35). Then pray as the body of Christ. While your spirit enters this battle of principles, you can do something practical immediately. Gather your church community and educate yourselves on who your local government representatives are and what they stand for. This knowledge will empower your vote when there is an election.

The ballot is your seed, and God doesn’t do anything without a seed. When you don’t sow it, you have sown to your enemy. So, get involved! You pray and you follow God when it comes time to vote. And then you do more than that: You stay involved.
